“So who killed Drake, then?” Hammer asked, his eyes set with a deadly purpose on the man before him.

“Pirates,” the Broker answered with a turn of his hand.

“It’s who they were working for that’s important,” he added, his glowing eyes giving away nothing.

“Do you know who Milspec is, Sergeant Hammurabi?”

Hammer laughed.

“You know I was in the army previously, so of course I know Milspec. They supplied every piece of combat equipment we used, and half of our enemies…”

“Yes,” the broker said and smiled. “Did you know they are still around?”

Hammer made a surprised face, but the broker just went on.

“Because of the impact, and everything that's happened in its wake, we have been reduced to a percent of a percent of the world that was before,” he stood after he said this and pulled a small fob out of his pocket. A large display appeared on the wall behind him.

Hammer had never seen a map of the shards so complete before. Many of them lit up and displayed a bit of information, like the area of each shard, population, and any remaining resources or capabilities.

It was mesmerizing.

After a few moments, he focused his fob on a distant shard that expanded to fill the whole projection. The shard's name was Milspec, and the information read: Population: 10,000, Capabilities: Military Production and Aerospace.
