Bast desperately began to throw her things into a bag as her father continued to scream and wake up everyone else in the household. He didn't explain why, but Bast was terrified. The look on his face; it was haunting.

Her father came into her room and began to scream. “Out! Out! Bast. Now!” He yelled and grabbed her by the shoulders and started to push her towards the door.

Bast began to weep.

The old man got one knee and lifted up his daughter's chin.

“Something is coming, girl. None of us may survive it. But we are going to try. Take your things.” He kissed her cheek gently like he always did and grabbed her hand.

The rest of the house was in chaos. The farmers were half dressed and milling about in the lawn. Their conversations were obviously not important. Everyone was staring at the ever-growing light in the sky. Strange colors were spiraling off of it now in every direction.

“To the caves!” Her father roared and started down the well-worn path leading into the nearby woods. He left her with the housekeepers as he went to get some of the older staff moving.

“It's okay, young one,” the oldest housekeeper said. Her name was Nanny Guinn and had been with the family since her father was a child. Her reassuring voice helped soothe the young woman, but this was something none of them had faced before.

Bast put on a brave face and smiled for everyone as they made their way to the cave opening. The only person who knew how nervous she was, well the only thing that knew, was Meow because of the death grip she had on the feline. To his credit though, he did not try to break free.

Her father was the last to enter and was just trying to get everyone organized when a slow rumble began in the distance. The floor of the cave began to shake, and pieces of ceiling started to come down. Her father looked at her to speak when a sudden flash of light cast her into darkness.
